Fractions/reflex math
Students remember to build your math skills by working on your reflex math and by using the thinkcentral.org (Go Math) website to practice fraction skills. Keep up the good work!!
WEBSITE
Parents and students please check out the following website www.khanacademy.org. This website was sent to me today and I have looked at the website, it has wonderful videos for students to watch. Best of all the site is free. We are working on fractions and I want students to have as many resources as possible. Thank you Ms. Lewis for sharing this website.
Math unit-Fractions
We will begin the Fraction unit on January 13th, 2014. Students will receive a vocabulary list at the beginning of a unit to be used as a study guide. They received a vocabulary list for Measurement on January 8th, 2014. We will be going back to the Measurement Unit this year. I sent a letter home for parents to read and sign that explains how the vocabulary list works. Students are responsible for writing definitions for the words. I will let students know ahead of time which words need to be studied. Students will only be tested over words that are in the sections we study each week. There will be 5-10 vocabulary words on the quiz/test that will be matching or fill in the blank (with a word bank). I have asked students to go to thinkcentral.com to access ITools, and Mega Math for extra practice.
STUDENTS PLEASE REMEMBER TO ACCESS REFLEX MATH, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE STILL IN THE ADDITION/SUBTRACTION PHASE OF THE PROGRAM. I WOULD LIKE FOR EVERYONE TO BE IN MULTIPLICATION/DIVISION STAGE BY JANUARY 27TH.

reflex math
Remember to work on your reflex math. Don't forget you have to be 100% fluent in addition and subtraction before you can move to multiplication and division.
math project
ALL OF THE MATH PROJECTS WERE FABULOUS. STUDENTS DID AN EXCELLENT JOB ON THEIR PROJECTS. THANK YOU PARENTS FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
math projects are due by 12/20/13
Students are going to be working on projects centering around area and perimeter. Students were asked to draw out their plans on graph paper showing area and perimeter of their dream room, home, garden, landscape, ect. After they have shown me their plans on graph paper they are to complete a scale model. Nothing expensive should be purchased for this project. I asked students to be creative by using materials around the house like shoe boxes, popsicle sticks, legos, play dough, etc.
The project is worth 200 points. Each student was given a letter to bring home to be read and signed by parents. I look forward to seeing these completed projects. I have already received a lot of creative designs. I am proud of all the hard work students are doing.
We will be working on other projects in the future. I will send home a letter for the parent to read and sign each time.
Thank you for your support!
